Wonder women, hike together
In snow, sleet, ice, mud, mosquitoes, moose and bears,
In pursuit of wildflowers and waterfalls,
Mountains and meadows.
They carry on,
With rebuilt knees and hips,
Patched up ankles,
Bruised brains,
And broken hearts.
They find ways to care,
For children, grandchildren, husbands, and friends,
And offer help at food bank, election booth,
Campaign trail, library, and more.
Despite the overwhelming cruelty and injustices all around them,
They just keep setting one foot in front of the other
And refuse to give up,
On family, community, country, and each other.
I love these women.
